Interpretive boundary: “Gish gallop” is an allegation about the target article’s argumentative structure, made by a later rebuttal. This docket tests that allegation and the scientific claims; it does not adopt either side’s conclusion in advance.

Argumentative structure before claim review

Holliday et al. argue that the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis lacks a coherent, well-dated, uniquely diagnostic impact event. The paper proceeds by accumulating objections across sampling, stratigraphy, radiocarbon dating, black mats, wildfire, spherules, platinum-group elements, nanodiamonds, proposed craters, Clovis archaeology, and megafaunal extinctions. Its conclusion depends on the combined force of these objections. A 2024 rebuttal argues that the paper’s length and accumulation of weak or disputed points create a Gish-gallop burden. The docket therefore asks two separate questions: what does each scientific objection establish, and does the whole presentation make fair evaluation harder or simply reflect the number of evidence classes involved?

Provisional finding

What remains to be reviewed

The target review is not automatically a Gish gallop merely because it is long or skeptical of a controversial hypothesis. Its strongest review path is to test a representative set of proxy, chronology, and alternative-explanation claims, then compare whether the paper’s cumulative conclusion follows from independently supported objections. The explicit rhetorical allegation is itself docketable, but it should not substitute for scientific source review.
